What should I wear on a final expense appointment
Hey everybody, Matt McCray here, agent and final expense success coach here at FEXsuccess.com. We’re going through the question of the week today, today’s question or this weeks question is what do I wear when I’m going out to see clients or prospects? What to wear on a final expense appointment? Great question we hear it a lot.
My take on What to wear on a final expense appointment, lets go back, when I initially started, when I got started in the business, I was with Bankers Life and we were pretty much taught, I’m sure it was company wide, I’m not sure if it was agency wide, we were taught to wear a suit and tie, so that’s what we did. We got fully suited up we did the suspenders the jacket, the tie, the whole deal; carried a professional briefcase, we did the whole deal. I got thinking, you know maybe that’s too much, we don’t need to do this. We are working with lower to middle income class families, they’re not dressing like this, are we intimidating them? No need to do all that, throw all of that out the door. Basically when I go out in the field now, I’m wearing either khakis, dress slacks, and a polo shirt, maybe a logo on the polo shirt, maybe a nice pullover like this, lot of times I even wear jeans and a polo shirt like this. I just want to be comfortable and professional at the same time. My shirt is tucked in, you know it brings me back to American Idol what was the guys name? Larry Platt, from American Idol, but it was the old dude on American Idol and he did the pants on the ground song, don’t have your pants pulled down, look professional! Pull your pants up, put your belt on, tuck your shirt in, lets look professional and appropriate, one step above what your clients are wearing. You know you could walk into their home and they could be wearing a bath robe, shorts, t-shirts or whatever, their just casual folks, you just want to look appropriate, look professional, I call it business casual. So khakis, polo, if you feel that you want to wear a button up shirt with a tie that’s fine too, but be professional, be appropriate, be comfortable and have fun with what you’re doing.
